Collection of Information
Information You Provide to Us
We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you participate in any interactive features of the Services, create an account, set up a Device, fill out a form, request information about our products, sign up for email updates about our products, communicate with us via third party social media sites, request customer support, submit product quality complaints, participate in a recall or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include your name, date of birth, gender, email address, postal address, telephone number, information about your Device, and any other information you choose to provide.
Automatically Collected Information
When you access or use our Services, we automatically collect information about you (or your Device (including the Place product and computer or mobile device)), including:
- Device, Sensor, and Log Information: We collect log information about your use of the Services, including type of browser you use, access times, pages viewed, your IP address, and the page you visited before navigating to our Services. We collect information about the computer or mobile device you use to access our Services, including the hardware model, operating system and version. In addition, when your Device is connected to our Services, our Services will collect various Device event data, such as when the Device is used, whether it is turned on or off, and when it is capturing video, motion or other sensor data We also collect data from sensors built into the Device such as smoke, carbon monoxide, humidity, methane, volatile organic compounds, air quality index levels, or current temperature to do things like detect smoke, and give you alarms and warnings.
- Audio and Video Recordings and Chat Content. When enabled, the Device automatically captures audio and video content when using our Service. Additionally, if you contact customer service through our chat feature or by phone, we may monitor and retain those conversations, including for training purposes.
- Information Collected by Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies: We use different technologies to collect information about your interactions with the Services, including cookies, web beacons, and SDKs. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory that help us improve our Services and your experience, see which areas and features of our Services are popular, and count website visits. Web beacons are electronic images that may be used in our Services or emails and help deliver cookies, count visits, and understand usage. SDKs are software development kits or tools that we use in our mobile applications, some of which allow us to see which features of our Services are popular. Information We Collect from Other Sources
We may obtain information from other sources and combine that with information we collect through our Services. For example, when you connect the Device with third party services, such as Amazon Alexa, we may receive information about your account information and voice commands you give to Alexa. In addition, we may collect information about you from other third parties, such as distributors of the Device, in connection with your purchase of or feedback regarding our Services via those third parties, which may include information about your purchase of a Device, how you intend to use the Device, contact information, and information from reviews you post about our mobile applications or support requests you submit through relevant third party app stores. For commercial buyers, we may also collect company name and project details.
Use of Information
We primarily use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our Services. We may also use the information we collect to:
- Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages;
- Develop new devices and Services;
- Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests;
- Communicate with you about products, services, offers, and events offered by Gentex and others, and provide news and information we think will be of interest to you;
- Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our Services;

Promotional Communications

Opting Out of Targeted Advertising, Sharing, and Sales
Some of the activities described in the Targeted Advertising and Analytics Services Provided by Others section above may be considered “sales” or “sharing” of your personal information or use of your information for “targeted advertising” under the law that applies to you. You can opt out of cookie-based ad targeting by emailing us at privacyinfo@gentex.com. You may need to renew your opt-out choice if you visit our Site from a new device or browser or if you clear your cookies because your opt-out choice will be linked to your browser only.
In addition to cookie-based ad targeting, we may disclose your identifiers, such as your email address to our affiliates, advertising partners, and other third parties for marketing and advertising purposes. You can opt out of having your identifiers disclosed for these purposes by emailing privacyinfo@gentex.com.
Depending on where you reside, such as in California or other states that have laws governing Global Privacy Control signals, you can also opt out by visiting our Services with a legally recognized universal choice signal enabled (such as the Global Privacy Control). Our processing of the signal will be limited to cookie-based sales, sharing, and targeted advertising for the specific browser or device that you are using.
Access, Deletion, and Correction
Depending upon where you reside, you may have the right to (1) request to know more about and access your personal information, including in a portable format, (2) request deletion of your personal information, and (3) request correction of inaccurate personal information. You can also access, correct, or delete certain information stored within your online account by logging into your account from the Place app and selecting “Account Settings.”
We may verify your request by asking you to provide information related to your recent interactions with us, such as providing information about last product bought and date of such purchase.
Authorized Agents
Depending on which state you are a resident of, State Laws may allow you to designate an authorized agent to submit a privacy rights request on your behalf. We may ask authorized agents to submit proof of their authority to make the request, such as a valid power of attorney or proof that they have signed permission from the individual who is the subject of the request. In some cases, we may be required to contact the individual who is the subject of the request to verify his or her own identity or confirm the authorized agent has permission to submit the request. Appeals
